Dr Graham Bentley

Version for printing

Dr Graham Bentley has 28 years experience in the field of protein crystallography. Since 1986, he has worked in the Unit of Structural Immunology at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, where he has studied many htmlects of immune recognition. He has concentrated on the structural analysis of several antibody-antigen complexes, the T-cell receptor and antigens from pathogenic agents. In particular, he determined the crystal structure of MSP1-19, providing the first 3-D structural information on MSP-1. Since 1993, he has been head of the Unit of Structural Immunology, which currently numbers 12 scientific personnel and students. He has been co-ordinator of projects in the PECO and Copernicus programmes of the European Union.

Dr Bentley is responsible for producing monoclonal antibodies to MSP1-19 and MSP1-42. He will carry out crystallographic studies on AMA-1 and MSP1-19, as well as studying the antibody complexes of these two antigens using specific monoclonal antibodies. He will interact directly with Drs. Holder and Longacre for the work on MSP-1 and with Dr Alan Thomas for the work on AMA-1.

The Unit of Structural Immunology within which this work will take place is well equipped with in-house diffraction equipment and computing facilities for crystal structure analysis. It has strong competence in protein purification and crystallisation, production of hybridoma cell-line and monoclonal antibodies, and immunological assays (ELISA, RIA and BIAcore).
