Version for printing

Dr Jana McBride is a Wellcome Trust Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Cell Animal and Population Biology. She has over 25 years experience in the field of malaria immunobiology, and her research has focused on the natural human immune responses to antigens of the merozoite (blood stage) of Plasmodium falciparum. She has been particularly involved in analysing the relationship between the antigenic polymorphism of the parasite and the humoral responses elicited by such polymorphic antigens in humans during naturally occurring infections. Dr D.R. Cavanagh has substantial experience of the molecular biology and expression of human pathogen antigens and has worked for the past four years in the field of malaria immunobiology. His experience in the construction, expression and characterisation of biologically functional parasite antigens is an important asset to the present proposal. I.C.A.P.B. and its sister institutes in the Division of Biology are well equipped for the production and purification of recombinant antigens, and the laboratory has strong competence in immunological assays.

Dr Jana McBride is a scientific partner and member of the MSP-1 Block 2 vaccine development group. Other partners involved in this work are Drs David Conway, Alan Thomas and Clemens Kocken.
